Sudbury Fire Victims

Several shops in Sudbury town centre were completely destroyed following the fire in Friars Street on Sunday evening. About 100 firefighters tackled the blaze after being called at about 18:25 BST.

The worst affected building was the 19th century Goldsmith’s Mansion, which was rebuilt in 1851 and was home to several flats, Celebrities Nails and the Oxfam Shop, although premises/businesses on both sides and in Gainsborough Street were also affected.
Several people were made homeless by the fire, but have been housed in temporary accommodation. Babergh District Council homeless team are working with those made homeless to ensure they are rehomed as quickly as possible.
Babergh District Council Emergency Planning Team are also working with commercial businesses around the affected area.
A fundraising appeal has been set up to help all those affected. Cash donations can be made at Sudbury Town Council during normal office hours.
